Fine line tattooing isn’t just single-needle work. In fact, it often uses a three-round liner—three tiny micro pins grouped together, typically around a 0.25 gauge. That’s extremely fine—equivalent to a single liner—but it offers more control and precision. The Chicano tattoo artists on the West Coast pioneered this meticulous fine line style—using these three-liner groupings to create detailed, intricate work.
So, fine line isn’t just minimal or delicate—it can be bold, intense, or anything in between. The key is the precise detailing, thanks to those fine needle groupings. Whether it’s soft or striking, fine line is all about controlled craftsmanship.
